Description

According to the meeting notes (JCTVC-N_Notes_dA), inter RDPCM (Test C.1 in Document JCTVC-N0074) for both lossy and lossless coding has been adopted. The current HEVC-RExt Draft 4 integrated the text but the following issues exist:

1) The parsing for the flags inter_rdpcm_flag and inter_rpdcm_dir_flag should be identical for both lossy and lossless coding. In the current version of the text both flags get parsed only for lossy coding.

2) The flags inter_rdpcm_flag and inter_rpdcm_dir_flag should be signalled for each TU and on a per component basis. In the current version of the text the component index cIdx is missing while parsing both flags.

3) Clause 8.6.5 ("8.6.5 Residual modification process for blocks using a transform bypass") should be invoked for both lossy and lossless coding in Section 8.5.4.3. Instead in the text is only invoked for lossy coding

4) Clause 8.6.5 is missing the TS scaling operated after residuals reconstruction for the lossy case.

The text changes for inter RDPCM are contained in Document JCTVC-N0074, namely JCTVC-N0074-text-changes-tu_r1.doc for lossless and JCTVC-N0074-text-changes-lossy_r1.doc for lossy coding.

Fixed in O1005v1:

  • (1) added missing cu_transquant_bypass_flag condition
  • (2) added missing cIdx
  • (3) correct flag is now used (explicit_rdpcm_flag) for condition

No longer pertinent:

  • (4) Superseded by adoptions from Geneva meeting
